During your trip to southern Nièvre, there are many attractions to discover. On the banks of the Loire, you can observe a rich variety of flora and fauna, enjoying a vacation that combines sports and nature for all ages.
                                The Nivernais Canal by bike
For our cycling tourists, this 14 km cycle path is accessible from Saint-Léger-des-Vignes, located 3.8 km from the campsite, and takes you to Cercy-la-Tour. Take the time to stop off at Cercy-la-Tour, a small, ancient village decorated with flowers, located at the confluence of three rivers (the Alène, the Aaron, and the Canne), which join the Canal du Nivernais. Enjoy a break in its historic center, which hosts a guinguette in summer, and relax by the pretty pond, from where you can see the marina. You can also cycle along the marina’s towpath to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Morvan riverbanks.
                                Town of Decize
The gateway to southern Burgundy and Nivernais, the charming town of Decize, whose fortified town center is built on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by two branches of the Loire River, offers many activities and tourist attractions that are not to be missed (just 1 km from the campground). Accessible on foot and even by bike, nature lovers can enjoy beautiful walks along the riverbanks. As you explore the surrounding area, discover the fun and sensory trails that allow you to admire the flora and fauna, as well as the Vieille Loire interpretive trail, for a fun-filled exploration. Also known as “Fishermen’s Paradise” due to its ideal geographical location and high fish population, Decize has no fewer than five bridges overlooking the many waterways and has developed largely around river activity, particularly in the transport of goods. Decize is an unmissable stopover during your visit to Burgundy! Guided tours are available in July and August.
                                Promenade des Halles
Listed as a Historic Monument in 1932, this walk among centuries-old lime and plane trees stretching for nearly a kilometer is located a stone’s throw from the campsite, near the water sports center. Named in Old French and meaning “Promenade des terres hâlées” (sun-scorched lands), it offers a breathtaking view of the confluence of the rivers and the St-Léger-des-Vignes dam at its tip.
                                Glénons Mine Museum and Shaft
8 km from the town of Decize (in the commune of La Machine), discover these two complementary sites and retrace the history of miners’ lives and coal mining through numerous objects, period photographs, and fossil models, which are sure to leave a lasting impression. At the same location, guides will introduce you to the difficult daily life and extreme conditions experienced by miners’ families. The tour is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility.
                                Morvan Regional Nature Park

Where are we
heading to next?
Did you love your stay in the heart of the Nivernais region but didn’t have time to see everything? Don’t worry! We suggest continuing your journey in the Mâconnais region and setting up camp at Le Champ d’été campground in Pont-de-Vaux (a 2-hour drive). Choose from spacious, shaded sites by the lake or cozy, fully equipped accommodations for the whole family! (Psst… the campsite also has a group lodge for your events!). Ideally located just off the A6 motorway (1 hour 20 minutes from Lyon and 30 minutes from Mâcon) and with treasures to discover in the Bresse countryside. So, ready to hit the road again? Let’s go!
